There is no doubt that early education is a topic in the upcoming 2020 Presidential Campaign and SCAN is advocating for ALL children in the U.S. Two of the main domestic issues SCAN is advocating for includes; 1) access to high-quality early education, and 2) funding.

Senator, Cory Booker is a 2020 Democratic Presidential Candidate. He recently sat down with a panel on the Undecided Caucus goers from Iowa at KCCI Des Moines to discuss several topics, but one that caught my attention was his stance on education and in particular; Early Education. Among the panel was Leslie Stonehocker. Leslie is a SCAN volunteer, mother of five, and educator for over 27 years. Leslie identified issues within the early education realm, which included; access, quality, affordability, and workforce. These issues all seem relevant, right?? She posed a great question to the Presidential Candidate and his responses did in my opinion give hope to our field.

A few key points on his stance...

*paying child-care workers for the contribution they are making

*tax reconciliation, expand earned income credit, and rent tax

*empowering working parents

*redefining work

One of his statements that resonated with me was, "it is shameful that being one of the richest countries in America that we don't have Universal Pre-K, Affordable Child-Care, and paid Family Medical Leave." This is one of my exact thoughts!
