SIDS=Sudden Infant Death Syndrome
In regards to the public health measures that impact children's development all around the world, I choose one of the health measures that hits close to home for me. In June of 2014 a sweet couple at our church lost their precious baby boy, Asher to SIDS. Please view their story below.
David and Misti's journey is truly a testament of faith. God has continued to bless this family through the devastation. It reminds me that through the seasons of life, whether good or bad, we remember God's grace and love. That grace and love allows me to be aware of how public health measures do impact the development of children not just here in the U.S., but around the world.
RESEARCH and TRENDS AROUND THE WORLD...
It is shown that the two countries that have the highest rate of SIDS is New Zealand and the United States (https://www.ispid.org/fileadmin/user_upload/textfiles/articles/CPR17_Hauck_SIDS_Trends.pdf)
I found it interesting watching this clip regarding why rates have plunged in New Zealand.
Being aware of what SIDS is, the meaningful impact that it has had on my life, becoming knowledgeable of its implications around the world with allow me to share my knowledge with teachers and parents. For a program that also serves children from zero-to-five, it is a state requirement as a part of professional development that the staff is trained over this very topic. I now feel more equipped with knowledge to successfully train them with intentionality that will make a lasting impression.

SIDS is one of the scariest parts of being a mom. It was one of my fears as a young mother. I think I may have slept a total of 3 hours a night until he was 6 months old for fear he was going to stop breathing. You did a great job on your post. Thank you for sharing.
