I am a single, 34 year old woman that has never been pregnant, and therefore do not have a birthing story. Aside from movies, I have actually never witnessed the birth of a child either. A birthing scene that comes to mind is from hit TV show Friends. This scene shows the emotions I would assume that mothers experience during child birth. My favorite moment is when they hear the baby cry and see her for the first time. You can instantly see the love a mother and father have for their new baby. I don't know if I will get to have a birthing story, but I do believe that birth is a beautiful thing and appreciate that everyone has their own story. I do find the birthing norms in the US fascinating. It does appear that many women in the US are using holistic birthing options or delivering in a birthing center rather than a hospital. My cousin delivered her second child at a birthing center. She opted for a natural vaginal birth in a pool. She said the experience was amazing and preferred over delivering at the hospital with the use of drugs. For your viewing pleasure...when Rachel gives birth!

Birth in Guatemala...

This documentary is very informative of how these women fear giving birth, yet in the same instance have such compassion, love and blessings. It is also empowering how they are choosing to become educated so they can show others the same compassion and love to others as a Midwife. Their main goal is to give women an opportunity to have a respectful birth experience. This documentary has opened my eyes, as I have not educated myself enough on the subject of birth and how it different around the world.
